Art Guidelines

Due to the print medium of Discipline Case we want to share a few guidelines about the type of art that will be featured.Artwork in this zine is here to support the text. For that reason, you will be paired with a writer during the creation period to illustrate a piece of their story. This can mean a portrait, a comic, the scenery, an object from the text, etc! Be creative, you are not restricted to simply drawing out a scene. (Although you totally can!!)We will be using standard paper (not art paper) and will be printing in black & white. (Imagine standard B&W manga pages as an example!) Throughout the creation period, mods will be available to help adjust artwork for the paper type to be sure that the medium compliments your style the best it can. The simple print process might limit you in terms of your contrast and shading density. You will want to plan your final pieces with the paper type in mind and account for the print quality. Simple styles are encouraged! There are several options on how to lay out the artwork to the fic, which you can decide with your author. Be creative and don't be afraid to ask questions if you want to know if your idea is possible! Here are some options for your layout, but please let us know if you come up with another cool idea!!!Text wrap around images without a background:

Full page artwork opposite text:

Full page as well as text wrap!

Use of transparency beneath text:

Lower contrast/photorealistic style/dense shading and details are possible but be aware that you will see the grain in the paper and the image will lose its original resolution:

Ben Day/dot shading will serve the print process very well!

Line shading and using a single tone will work well, too!

You will get 1 point for your main contribution to the book and it is up to you how many pieces you'd like to do, keeping in mind that it will still be worth 1 point total. Your art may add up to 4 pages to the story, and you may arrange that space however you'd like. One page worth of art might be:
- 1 full page picture
- 2 half page pictures
- 3 small pictures to be placed within the text
- 1 picture spread across 2 pages would count as 2 pages.
- If you would like to draw a comic of a scene in the story, you may use up to 4 pages.
For example, if you use small pictures with text wrap, you may use up to 12 total throughout the story.

You can also mix the types of pictures you're using as long as it adds up to 4 pages total, ie: 1 full page picture, 1 spread, 3 small pictures. You may submit as few or as many pictures as you'd like as long as they fit within the 4 page limit. If you and your author have specific instructions on where the art should be placed in relation to the story, please let us know! Otherwise we will try to match it the best we can. When you submit your files please title them "NAME-FULLPAGE1",
"NAME-HALFPAGE1", "NAME-SMALL1" etc. If you have specific instructions about the layout feel free to upload a doodle/thumbnail example or let one of us know what you need.
Please let us know about your ideas so we can make it happen!!!

Fic Guidelines

Your main fic for the zine may be 5k-10k in length. Please use standard single line breaks between paragraphs and one-tab indents for new paragraphs.Your main story will count towards 1 point of your compensation and you will have the opportunity to earn an extra .5 points if you'd like to submit extra content to the digital zine.Your extra bit for the digital zine may be 3k-5k. It can be a completely separate story or may be extra content for your main story, like a Director's Cut! ie: A deleted or extended scene. The only rules we have for your content are that:
- The story must feature Dom!Shiro, as per the theme of the book. You may feature them switching if you'd like, as long as he makes an appearance. ;)
- Please do not erase Shiro's disabilities unless it serves a narrative or transformative function to your story.
- If you plan on featuring any elements are may be squicky/extreme/triggering/etc please run them by your artist first to make sure they are comfortable working with your story.
The plot:smut ratio is completely up to you, but we do encourage atmosphere and storytelling. In fact, your story does not even need to involve smut! Domestic or non-sexual BDSM and suggestive fics are also welcome. We will have a beta process for your final piece, however you are very welcome to use your own beta and submit pieces that have already been beta'd. We will still give them a double-check for typos and make sure it's formatted to be consistent with the rest of the book. If you decide to use one of the zine betas we will be sure to communicate with you about what style beta helps you the most and what your needs are as an author.
